What a fantastic gem, right in the heart of the city. A lovely old building, spotlessly clean, well presented and lovely atmosphere. The room was spacious and spotless. The breakfast was amazing and all of the staff were really friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this as a place to stay in Norwich and we will definitely be returning. Many thanks to Lisa and all the other staff who contributed towards our stay. See you again soon x Source: Facebook

We came to Norwich on a busy travel itinerary which took us from London to the Holy Island, to Cambridge, Auldesborough, Cambridge again and then Norwich.St. Giles House, in the tradition of ancient religious institutions, provided us with a comfortable place of calm and rest, among rain and snow, trains that were late and long bus rides. The convenience of being in the center of town, within walkable distance of every place we wanted to see, was invaluable. Our room was elegant, and I particularly liked having a little balcony to enjoy watching the rain without getting wet, and listening to the church bells. It was unfortunate that not all rooms come with the hotel breakfast option. Nevertheless, was a lovely stay.

I'd booked a suite online but on arrival at the hotel due to an error, there were no suites available despite having received a booking confirmation that clearly showed booking as suite. We were given a normal room at obviously a reduced price, room 18 but the shower was only lukewarm at best. The manager did provide a complimentary bottle of champagne which was a nice touch & the staff were amazing.Overall a lovely hotel, just a shame that the booking got messed up! We would come back though.

Good location, convenient centre for exploring Norwich and beyond. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Public areas are clean and comfortable and the outdoor space is a bonus, especially as it was very hot when we stayed. The bedroom was a little small, but still comfortable. Bathroom large with big shower, but it was difficult to regulate the temperature. A bath would have been nice. Breakfast and dinner both good, especially breakfast, really good selection of both hot & cold food. Would definitely stay here again either for leisure or business.

Enjoyed our stay, the room was fine and the staff very pleasant. The shower in our room (rm10) was disappointing as no real pressure and the water came and went - we forgot to mention this you. Thought the pricing was fine, breakfast quite nice. Whole place could do with a little TnC but I think we will return and as I say, we had an enjoyable stay.

We very much enjoyed our 3 night stay. We were made welcome, by Magda, as soon as we arrived and when we asked if we might exchange a room with a shower for a room with a bath this was arranged without any fuss at all - and we got a lovely room in the Georgian part of the hotel into the bargain. Food was excellent and the atmosphere in the lounge and the restaurant was most relaxed, whilst service was efficient. The one, minor, criticism that we have is that the main hallway had a faint smell of disinfectant about it and the corridors were air-freshener heavy. When the warmer weather comes all doors and windows need to be left open for a spell!

My wife and I stayed at the St Giles House Hotel as part of our Xmas shopping trip to Norwich. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Xmas and the staff were very welcoming. Our room was on the ground floor and had an amazing bathroom. We did not eat dinner in the restaurant, we choose to explore the city, but breakfast was one of the best I have ever had in a hotel. Wonderful choice of food and excellent quality. I would definitely recommend the hotel for those wanting that little touch of luxury on a city break.

We had been recommended to stay by old friends who had stayed a number of times in the past ; and as the four of us were going to Don Giovannigiven by Travelling Glyndbourne , we joined them to stay at SGH , rather than drive home to North Norfolk after the opera . We found the reception welcoming , our room comfortable and well appointed , and breakfast the following morning first rate . The ambience of SHG is period / stylish , and its location perfect for a part of Norwich - the Lanes , Tombland , Elm Hill, the Cathedral, and indeed the Market and Gentlemens Walkare all very readily accessible on foot . We were able to park at SGH without difficulty , even though tit seemed that there were plenty of other guests . All in all , most enjoyable and we will return .

We decided to have a night away back at the hotel where we married six years ago. Room 3 was more obv. more basic than the wedding suite but it was lovely. Clean, great tea and coffee/biscuits and crisps selection in room. The only complaints were that it was very noisy from the music upstairs until about midnight (guess there was a function) and the loo in room 3 doesn't really flush.Other than that, it's a nice room in a great hotel. Breakfast was lovely.

I only stayed for one night and so didn't have the chance to use all of the facilities but everything looked very good. Breakfast was excellent, table service rather than the modern buffet style was a nice touch. Very helpful and friendly service throughout the hotel. The wedding was very well organised and went extremely well with everyone attending enjoying the day. I have a couple of negative comments however. The service at breakfast on the Sunday morning was very slow, my butter knife was laying on the floor, the waitress gave us a teapot but no cups to drink from and then cups but no milk. Also I had to request that she take our breakfast order three times before she came over. As I wanted to be available to bid farewell to a number of our wedding guests, I did not want to spend an hour waiting for breakfast. The problem was that there were only two waitresses to serve over twenty people and one of those was tied up with providing Room Service which effectively left only one Waitress to serve breakfast in the Dining Room. The second point is that on Check-out we were overcharged on the bill and the Young Man at the reception desk did not seem to understand ,and had at that moment taken the payment on a Debit Card. I had to ask that he contact the Wedding Organiser Alice Cooksey and get her to sort it out which she did very efficiently, immediately refunding the amount of the overpayment to the Debit Card and apologising for the error. Finally in praise of the Hotel,Alice Cooksey deserves a special mention as in all my dealings with her she was never less than efficient, cordial and professional. Many thanks from the McMahon and Yamaguchi families to her.Overall we loved the Hotel and would certainly return again.Roderick McMahonSouthsea

From the start to the finish our five day stay was delightful. The attention to detail made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. The staff were always smiling, friendly, helpful, polite and behaved in an extremely professional manner. Sadly these skills have been lost at many other establishments. The food was outstanding both in choice and quality, both for breakfast and the evening meals, which were creative and modern in presentation and a real taste of fine dining. The room was tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable for our extended stay. The outside terrace area was an added bonus. We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Norwich. We have been on numerous occasions to visit family and nothing touches this quality. A sheer pleasure. Thank you.

Overall friendly staff, clean hotel and very relaxing stay. I was disappointed at the fact they claim to have ran out of crystal champagne (it was our wedding day) and one of the reasons we picked st Giles to stay at because of the wine list. We got offered to come back next week or so as they will have it. Also no onion rings - which I thought was strange and when we had breakfast to our room we had to call for condiments and butter as they were missing. Staff very relaxed, pleasant but didn't really feel when we did mention the items ESP champagne disappointment it was acknowledged by them and there doesn't seem to be anywhere I can contact that is higher management apart from the email - which reception would receive. I would dine with this establishment. Beautiful relaxing Lounge bar and courtyard.

Hello.I enjoyed my stay at St Giles Hotel very much. The hotel is in a great location, the room was comfortable, and your staff was just fantastic.A very good selection of breakfast items, but the dinner menu was not appealing to me.Comments about the room:the bathroom sink faucet is not long enough to use properly.Every time I washed my hands water spilled all over the counter tops. The fabric on the chair in the bedroom was stained and should be replaced. But there is no question that I would stay again and recommend the St Giles to friends.

The location is excellent. The staff were friendly and efficient.Breakfast was delicious. There was a serious lack of electric outlets in the room.Even the extension cords had all outlets occupied and were live all the time. This meant the hot plate under the kettle was always hot, even when the kettle was empty.I believe this to be a fire hazard.

I have stayed here previously with my wife and parents and its always been the same. The room is clean, comfortable and spacious - bathroom is large and well supplied with shampoo, conditioner etc. Breakfast in the morning is very good with an excellent range of choices. Any gripes? We had a lovely stay here. The reception team were so welcoming and were extremely helpful. We asked for a quiet location and so were kindly located in the older part of the hotel . The negative of this was the "old" toilet systems in our and neighbouring rooms were very noisy and did wake us when others were using the facilities! The flip side was that the bathroom was stunning, with rolled top bath and massive walk in shower - pure luxury. Breakfast was yummy but service was alittle slow, this may have been due to everyone seemingly arriving at similar times. We would definitely stay here again but maybe try a room in the newer part of the hotel next time.

We stayed one Saturday, bed & breakfast. On arrival, the receptionist was welcoming and very helpful. The hotel is very stylish with an art-deco feel, and the room was spacious and very comfortable. We were particularly impressed with the service we received and will definitely be staying here again.

Excellent location and very friendly and attentive staff as evidenced by finding wifi wasn't working in my part of the hotel - 'no problem sir' and I was moved to a room where it did with no fuss.Good sized rooms with all the facilities you need.

I stay at many hotels because I travel a lot. Therefore, travelling for non-business reasons needs to be stressless and the hotel MUST be good.On our arrival we were greeted with a smile. Check-in was painless. Parking was ample and right behind the hotel. The room was much bigger than expected and really comfortable and clean. The staff were, without exception, friendly, helpful and eager to please. The rate included a 1st class english breakfast and there was a very complete buffet. The location of the hotel is in the middle of the historic part of Norwich and is surrounded by cobblestone roads, pedestrian areas and right next door to the market.I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

A great location, only 5 mins walk from the city centre, the Forum and the Theatre Royal and it has it's own car park. All the staff were very friendly, helpful, approachable and willing to help, they were great ambassadors for this hotel. The hotel is a grade 2 listed building and full of character, our suite was attractive and very comfortable, all the facilities expected of an hotel of this grade. The bar and restaurant was not experienced but the breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. A stay here is recommended.

I wanted to give a rating of "Very Good" but there is no allowance for this.Fantastic building! Our very comfortable suite "Marie Antoinette" full of interesting, suitably over-the-top furniture. Unusual and nicely private bathroom, with a window - a plus!Very pleasant staff. Good restaurant and bar.Perfect situation for walk around old town. Minor criticisms: no coffee machine/filter in room, lift had a strange smell.

It's a beautiful place in a great location, furnished well, large rooms with excellent bathrooms and good breakfast in the morning. However, my room this time was out on the main street, ground floor. It was hot and stuffy and I couldn't for the life of me get a window to stay open. Some form of ventilation would be a good idea, as would a desk for those of us who visit for work rather than on holiday.I suspect I got unlucky, as last time I had a desk and French windows to open.

Couldn't fault the service, hotel, food and location. If you want to be very picky then there was only 2 small milks in room when there was 8 satchets of coffee. The mix up with breakfast and the staff were more interested in setting up dinner time tables than serving us. For that it's got 4 yes's if not it would clearly be a 5!!!

We always stay at the St Giles when in Norwich .The staff are second to none, very capable, friendly and professional.Especially the Reception staff who always go the extra mile.On this occasion our room was a bit tired with the arms on the one comfortable chair in the twin room worn and peeled off and the wallpaper had been torn off in places. However, the hotel is ideally situated for the shops and the lanes,is a beautiful building and the breakfast is great.

We stayed at the St Giles two nights on a short visit to Norwich. It was really nice - the staff were very friendly, and the room was very clean and comfortable. It is in the city center close to the market, restaurants, and other sights, not far to the river, cathedral and castle. The breakfast was good, and the cafe was nice. All in all heartily recommended.

Horrid breakfasts with cheap untasty ingredients.Dreadful scrambled eggs and hard poached ones. And eggs benedict on toast rather than a muffin???Sloppy service too at breakfasts with staff just chatting to each other rather than taking your order.Nice rooms though. And a good late bar.Check out time of 11am on a Sunday is too early. It is an expensive hotel and should therefore correct the food and staffing problems. Or else drop the prices.

We have had a lovely stay at the hotel, with the staff, food and room being first class. The only improvement I can suggest would be to send out details of our parking arrangements, and making the rear entrance to the hotel a little more inviting as most people staying would be via a car. But overall we had a fantastic stay and would love to come back again at some point. Many thanks Ian

I use hotels on business most weeks so am able to give an objective review. I rate the st Giles as one of the best in the UK, giving it a 10 out of 10, on my rather strict personal standard. Thank you and well done to all the staff at the st Giles.

Overall an enjoyable stay.My major criticism relates to the difficulty in finding your hotelYour hotel is virtually impossible to identify whilst driving in Norwich's fiendish one-way system amongst impatient local traffic.A problem exacerbated by the lack of either a prominent hotel sign or anywhere to park along St Giles Street whilst one investigates.
Reviewer: Mr. F | Wed 25th Jun 2014 | 9 years ago
I've heard many a good tale about the hotel - I even remember the TV documentary when it was being built and last night certainly didn't disappoint.Arriving late (10.30pm) all I wanted to do was get to my room.A speedy check in (slow check in's are one of my biggest bug bares in hotels), escorted to the lift and the short cut to breakfast highlighted were all lovely touches. The room was extremely well presented, clean with everything to hand that I could have wanted.Couple of things - no iron or ironing board in the room - I know you can ring reception for one to be delivered but always prefer one in the room. WiFi code 'hidden' on bedside table - maybe place it in the Hotel Information book.Fantastic stay, speedy checkout and look forward to staying again.

The receptionist was very helpful, most welcoming, and was well informed about things to see in Norwich. The room was large and comfortable. The hotel Wi-Fi had some problems (one of the three access points was refusing new connections), leading to intermittent coverage in our room. The curtains would have been better in a darker colour, to keep more of the early morning sunlight out.

Very impressed with St Giles House Hotel and would certainly return.Staff excellent, extremely comfortable room and bed and excellent food. We were a little dubious about noise as our room was at the front but slept like a log! There was also a wedding on the Saturday night but we didn't hear a sound! One mistake in that the waiter gave two if our party the wrong main course on Sunday night, but this was quickly rectified and we weren't charged for our wine as an apology. No complaints at all apart from the fact that the car park is really difficult to find initially. We would certainly return.

I have never been so satisfied with a hotel booking. From the very start the staff were friendly and very considerate. I had booked a suite but to get to it there were several small flights of stairs as it was in the old building. I did not know at the time but I was getting unwell and had to stop a couple of times to get my breath. The suite offered to me was really great but a few minutes later I received a phone call from Reception. I was asked would I like the honeymoon suite which was near a lift. How considerate and what an experience that was! Over the top for just one person but if ever a man honeymoons me I would want to be in that suite. The whole stay at St Giles set the standard, for me, that other hotels need to live up to.,

A warm welcome at reception. A pleasant room and shower room. Evening bar service questionable! Returned from theatre visit at about 10.30pm, ordered a bottle of Sancerre but had to pour it, and taste it, myself! A group of three well dressed, middle aged people arrived at 10.45, for a drink, only to be told the bar was closed. The night porter was excellent and helpful when I asked for a further glass of wine. All in all a pleasant stay but bar staff need better training. Thank you.

Nice comfortable hotel. The bathroom was the most amazing bathroom I have ever had in a hotel. It was huge with an amazing walk in power shower and deep Victorian style bath. The room I had would not have been suitable for a disabled person as there were lots of steps on the way to it and no lift access. The hotel was convenient for the city centre.

We would stay here again, the hotel is in an excellent location for accessing the town.

The Hotel was decorated festively, the staff were very helpful and our evening meal was excellent. The room was very well equipped but too hot for our particular taste during the night. Unfortunately my husband became unwell during the night with what turned out to be the winter vomiting bug so we had to leave for home quite quickly and therefore missed what I am sure would have been an excellent breakfast. The receptionist was very sympathetic on our departure but no offer was made to adjust our bill accordingly for not having breakfast. Car parking facility excellent at the rear of the hotel in central Norwich.

My only criticism would be that if you order a cooked breakfast it come in seconds which means you have little time to eat the pre-cooked breakfast and for some reason the outside of my room had various bits of washing drying over door frames??

Unfortunately the bedrooms are getting a bit tired we stayed in room 9 the bathroom needs a a bit of TLC and the bed is the worst we have ever slept on. Just in Norwich for one night. The hotel was very conveniently located, with friendly and attentive staff. The afternoon tea and breakfast were both great (we didn't have dinner at the hotel). The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious and clean. My only minor gripe is that the bathroom taps were very close to the wall for me to use with my large hands. We loved this hotel, beautiful building, lovely room and huge ensuite. The lady on reception was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic about the hotel, showing us the lovely features of the building. The room was tastefully decorated and furnished, very clean and the location is perfect, right in the city center. The only bad point about our stay is that the lady who served us breakfast was possibly the most miserable person I have ever met. She made it quite clear that she didnt want to make conversation and made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. She didnt ever bother to ask if everything was ok when she took our plates away which is a shame because apart from her, breakfast was superb. However it wont deter us and we will definately be back, hopefully it will be her day off!

I had a lovely stay & the staff were really helpful and nice. A couple of minor irritations in my room, I wasn't able to plug in the hairdryer anywhere near the mirror so had to do it blind. I know that reception would have located an extension lead for me though had I asked, I just didn't think to at the time. Also the towel rail is situated behind the shower door so when you open the door you have to get out & close it before you can get to the towel. This could be easily remedied by just fixing the door on the other side. The bedside lamps were a bit awkward to turn off, they were the type with the switch on the lead which was trailing somewhere down the back off the bedside table. The food was excellent as was the overall service and I'm planning to return later in the year.

A very pleasant experience in a good quality hotel that afforded an excellent level of service for a very reasonable price. My only complaint would be that the rooms were too warm, but that is true of most hotels.

We came to Norwich for a weekend's Christmas shopping and although this was our first stay at St Giles House, it certainly won't be our last! The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff warm and welcoming, the food delicious and the service friendly and efficient.Thank you so much to everyone.

Location excellent; friendly staff; Suite huge and comfortable; odd that there were few towels with two bathrooms; food including Christmas meal unchallenging but tasty; good choice of breakfast. We enjoyed our stay and will certainly come back. Well done for chasing feedback.

We stayed for a single night for our wedding anniversary. The Spa treatments were very nice and we were treated very well. The room was clean and bright but was too hot at times, (as was most of the hotel) and the A/C was a bit noisy to have on at night. We didn't have an evening meal in the hotel but did have breakfast and that was good.

Looked for ages to find a hotel to stay in Norwich twice a year to see family. This by far the best. Quirky though modern and smart, slightly bohemian feel and splendid, thoughtful service.

Nice hotel, interested staff and good stay.Would have preferred a non-disabled room so as to have a more attractive bathroom. We're not disabled and hotel wasn't full.If only a shower available how about providing a shower cap ?The Star Rating thing below isn't working - would give 4 out of 5.Thanks.

I took my partner here for a Birthday weekend and couldn't fault it. We had a lovely clean room and a huge bathroom! Staff very helpful, breakfast was tasty and the cocktails in the bar & garden were a really nice touch. Would definitely stay here again.

I travel and stay in a lot of hotels around the world and have to say that the attentiveness of the staff and the quality of this hotel is superb it should be a 5 star hotel. Fantastic we actually went back after staying in another hotel in the local area and cancelled that and returned to St Giles

I have wanted to go to this hotel since I moved to Norfolk 5 years ago and I had the opportunity to go last weekend. The hotel is beautiful, I love old buildings and somewhere with character. The room was comfortable, the staff couldn't have been more helpful.Breakfast was lovely. The only downside was the noise, I didn't sleep a wink all night

Service excellent, food wonderful, room comfortable. Our only complaint was the loud noise from the street that went well into the night. The noise came from both the YMCA, but from the waffle restaurant a few doors down where people hung around outside talking very loudly until around 1am Friday and Saturday night.

Stayed only the one night, however it was very good indeed. Room very good, food and staff also very good, unable to fault any part of the stay including the fantastic location right in the heart of the city.

A very enjoyable stay that I would certainly repeat. Hotel could improve by offering a vegitarian cooked breakfast option. Just removing the meat and saying you cam have more potatoes is very out dated and reflects an ignorant approach. However this did not spoil our stay and would recommend

Just stayed for the one night as an anniversary pressie to the wife. Have to say the room was very nice and very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful at all times. I have just 1 very very small whinge. Although the breakfast was extensive with a great selection, we both found cooked breakfast a little erm watery, Runny scrambled egg and watery mushrooms. I have to say though this is totally to personal taste and i am totally, totally sure they would have rectified the issue had we mentioned it at the time as the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We just needed to get away back to the kids. It was a delightful but short stay at very reasonable rates. Would definitely stay at St Giles Hotel again and recommend to others. Please note i tried to put 5 stars but for some reason it wouldn't let me.

despite only living 20 miles away we had no idea the hotel existed! from the moment we arrived the service was fantastic, a free upgrade to help us celebrate our honeymoon in style! The room was fantastic, very clean though there was a lot of noise outside late on but then it is a city centre hotel. The only disappointment was the in-room breakfast, which was a bit dry, but we would certainly stay again.

I took my boyfriend here for a surprise birthday treat. We were shown our room on arrival and the receptionist was so lovely and made us feel very welcome. The room was fab and the bathroom was amazing! We had cocktails in the evening and the barman was very attentive. We didnt stay in the hotel for dinner. One slight complaint would be that the room got very hot despite both windows being open. Also as we were situated at the back of the hotel we could hear staff leaving and emptying bins at very early hours. Breakfast was amazing and staff again were very nice. We had a lovely time and would love to come again and will be recommending this to everyone. My boyfriend was very impressed with the hotel and the location was perfect

Recently stayed for a Saturday night. Room very nice. Ideally placed for City centre Staff all helpful and courteous. Couple of problems - 1) Front rooms are very noisey, 2) Lounge area too small for number of guests and other users, 3)Need to arrive early to secure car park - not sure all cars parked were actually guests. Will try again but ask for a room at the back.

The staff at the hotel were excellent, very friendly and helpful . The location of the hotel was also excellent in the centre of Norwich with easy acces to all facilities. The hotel itself was very comfortable with good facilities and the breAkfast was very good. A couple of comments however, toiletries were only provided on one day, insufficient for two people, finding the parking area was difficult, lamp on dressing table not working, feather pillows caused allergy although we're changed on second night. Enjoyed our stay, thank you

We had a lovely break at the St Giles House Hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful without being too in your face and the hotel is beautifully decorated and comfortable. It is very central and yet has parking. My only minor gripes were that my steak was a little over-cooked and it would have been nicer to have a bath in our bathroom considering how spacious it was, but I'm really just splitting hairs there. All in all, highly recommended and we would definitely stay there again.
